Games on your phone with no download: play Skyhop in the browser

Not every mobile game needs to take up storage and wait for store updates. Skyhop runs in an ordinary browser: you open a page, tap, and a few seconds later you are jumping up a tower. This guide shows how to play with no download, how to turn the game into an icon on your home screen, what works offline and how to keep your progress. If your phone is in your hand, you can play right now.

Why a browser game beats a download

A game that lives in the browser has a few practical advantages on a phone:

• Nothing to download from a store. You don't enter card details or a store account just to try it.
• Always the current version. New levels and fixes arrive the next time you open the page, with no separate update.
• Android and iPhone alike. All you need is a recent browser: Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox.
• The same game on a computer. On a computer you use the arrow keys and Space, on a phone you use your thumb or tilt.

Skyhop starts as a guest, with no sign-up. Progress is saved on the device, and an account only becomes useful when you want to play on several devices, appear on a leaderboard with a nickname or duel other players.

One honest note: the game itself is currently in English and Polish. If you read this guide in English, you will not have to translate anything.

How to add Skyhop to your home screen

Skyhop is a web app (a PWA). Once you add it to the home screen it gets its own icon and opens full screen in portrait mode, with no address bar, so it looks and feels like an installed app, even though no store is involved.

Android (Chrome)

1. Open skyhop.pl/en/ and start the game.
2. When the browser allows installing, a card appears in the game with a button: icon on your home screen, full screen and offline play.
3. Tap the button and confirm in the system dialog.

If the card did not appear, or you closed it, open the Chrome menu (three dots) and choose Add to Home screen or Install app. The exact wording depends on the browser version.

iPhone and iPad (Safari)

1. Open skyhop.pl/en/ in Safari.
2. After a moment the game shows a hint: tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
3. Tap the Share icon on the bottom bar, scroll the list, choose Add to Home Screen, then tap Add.

You can close the hint with the cross and the game will remember it. When you launch Skyhop from the icon, the hint never shows.

What works offline

After the first launch with a connection, the game stores its files in your phone's memory. From then on you can open it on a plane, on the subway or anywhere with no signal.

A tip before a trip: launch the game once on Wi-Fi and open Duels. The game downloads the next rival's ghost in advance, so you can play a match on the road and the result will arrive later.

Phone controls: guide, swipe or tilt

You don't need to set anything up. The default mode is Thumb guide: you move your thumb like on a touchpad, a dot shows the target, and the hero runs to it and stops. Holding your finger on the screen is auto-jump. In the Controls window (Pause, or the phone icon in the menu) you can switch to one of four cards:

• Thumb guide (recommended): your thumb sets the target and the hero brakes by itself.
• Swipe: the further you slide your thumb, the faster the hero runs; a flick up is a deliberate jump.
• Tilt: you tilt the phone, and tapping the screen is a jump. If you play lying down or on a bus, use Calibrate level.
• Buttons: two pads, ◀ and ▶, at the bottom of the screen, and a touch above them is a jump.

In every mode, a Perfect Hop needs a fresh tap right as you land (for example with a second finger), not just a held finger. For numbers and sensitivity settings read the guide to mobile controls: tilt or swipe.

An older phone? Change the graphics quality

Skyhop adjusts its graphics to your phone. In Profile, Graphics quality you get four options: Automatic, High, Medium and Low.

Automatic mode:

• guesses a level from your device: phones with at most 2 cores or 2 GB of memory get Low, at most 4 cores or 4 GB get Medium, stronger ones get High;
• measures smoothness during the first seconds of play, and if it drops below 45 frames per second on average, lowers quality by one level and remembers it for next time;
• raises quality back up if the phone was only briefly busy and the game holds a full 60 frames per second.

Lower quality reduces resolution, particles and decorative animations. Gameplay and scores stay exactly the same. A manual choice always beats the automatic one. If the game stutters, pick Low. If your phone is strong and the picture looks soft, pick High.

Your progress: guest, account and a new phone

As a guest, your whole progress lives only on this device and in this browser. So:

1. Do not clear the site data for skyhop.pl in your browser settings, because that deletes the guest save.
2. Create an account in your Profile before you change phones. Your guest progress is attached to the account.
3. On the new phone open skyhop.pl and log in with the same email. Progress from both devices merges.

Common problems and quick fixes

• No Add to Home Screen option on iPhone. Make sure you are in Safari, not in the browser built into a messaging app. Open the link in Safari.
• The icon shows an old version. Close the game completely and open it with a connection. The page always tries to fetch the newest version first.
• Tilt drifts to one side. Use Calibrate level in the Controls window.
• The phone gets warm during long sessions. Lower the graphics quality to Medium.

Where to start your first session
